Origin
The Shuowen Jiezi explains 赴 as "to hurry to", written 从走卜聲 — 走 "to walk, to run" gives the meaning and 卜 gives the sound. The reading has since shifted from the b- of 卜 (bǔ) to the f- of 赴 (fù), a regular sound change, so the phonetic side is still there even though the two no longer rhyme to the ear.
